Artist & curator Janet Owen Driggs did a video interview with me on the topic of social practice, this unruly and messy thing so many of the artists I know are involved in. I’ve taught a few classes on it at CalArts, and we’re always confronted with the slipperiness of the definition.
It’s part of Come In, We’re Open, a growing archive of short video interviews with artists, curators, writers, and producers that creates a multi-vocal, multi-definitional interpretation of the question “what is social practice?” The series is organized by Edith Abeyta, Owen Driggs, and Carol Zou, as part of Performing Public Space. The videos were shown at the DaVinci gallery at Los Angeles City College, March 11 – April 16, 2013.
